🏝️ Bahama Bliss: Swimming Pigs, Turquoise Dreams & Island Vibes

There’s nothing quite like the Bahamas β€” where the water is actually as blue as the travel brochures, the vibe is chill, and the adventures are straight out of a dream. But Let’s be honest β€” the entire reason I planned this trip to the Bahamas was to swim with the famous pigs 🐷. (Yes, really. But remarkably that wasn’t even my favorite part of the trip) Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, a girls’ trip, or your next beach escape, here’s a peek inside my unforgettable trip to paradise from the luxury of Baha Mar in Nassau to the barefoot paradise of Staniel Cay.

🌴 First Stop: 4 Nights of Luxury at Baha Mar

We kicked things off in style at Baha Mar, a beachfront resort in Nassau that feels like a tropical playground. There are too many pools to count, a full-blown water park, and so many food and drink options your head will spin (and so might your wallet πŸ’Έ). But more on that in another post β€” it deserves its own spotlight and I will give you my insider tips.

🌴 Stay in Style at Baha Mar

πŸš• Travel Tip: Pre-book your taxi from the airport to Baha Mar and back β€” especially during busy seasons when cabs can be a bit chaotic.

πŸ§ƒMoney-Saving Tip: Before checking in, make a pit stop at a local grocery store or liquor shop to stock up on snacks, water, and drinks for your room. It’s a small move that saves you a lot when hotel drinks run $18+ a pop.

✈️ Flying to Staniel Cay: Adventure Starts Here

From Nassau, we hopped on a Flamingo Air flight to Staniel Cay β€” it’s a quick, scenic ride on a tiny plane (prepare for an unforgettable view of the Exumas from above!). The moment we stepped onto that tiny airstrip, I knew we were in for a real island adventure. You’ll land on a small airstrip where chickens might greet you β€” island life, baby.

Important: When returning to Nassau to fly back to the U.S., don’t forget to book a taxi ahead of time to get from the small domestic airport back to the international terminal. They are not walking distance apart, and the local taxis don’t always hang around waiting.

🏝️ Staniel Cay (3 Nights in Barefoot Paradise β€” But I Wanted More!)

After our time in Nassau, we flew to Staniel Cay for 3 nights β€” and honestly, I wish I had booked more time here and fewer nights at Baha Mar. This little island stole my heart in the best way. It’s peaceful, naturally stunning, and full of charm that no resort can compete with.

Everything on the island feels slower (in a good way), and there’s so much to explore. Whether it’s the friendly locals, crystal-clear beaches, or getting to know the marina cats at the Yacht Club, it’s the kind of place that invites you to fully unplug.

πŸš— Must-Do: Rent a Golf Cart
This is the easiest (and most fun) way to explore Staniel Cay. You’ll need it to get from your accommodation to the docks, restaurants, and the tiny grocery store β€” and let’s be honest, zipping around on a golf cart just feels like vacation.

🚀 The Tour That Had It All

We booked a full-day boat tour, and it’s one I’ll never forget. Here’s everything we did in just one adventure-packed day:

  • 🐷 Swam with the pigs at Big Major Cay (yes, they swam out to meet us!)
  • 🦎 Fed iguanas on Bitter Guana Cay
  • 🐠 Snorkeled in Thunderball Grotto β€” cue the Bond theme music
  • ✈️ Explored a sunken plane wreck just offshore
  • πŸ–οΈ Relaxed on a private sandbar with a dreamy overwater swing
  • 🦈 Swam with nurse sharks at Compass Cay (yes, I was nervous β€” but I did it!)

🍹 Where to Eat & Chill

At Staniel Cay Yacht Club, we found the best fresh conch fritters and lobster β€” and made some furry friends (hello, marina cats 🐾). The vibe is casual, and sunsets here are chef’s kiss. My favorite part was walking around the marina at Sunset looking at all the boats and seeing the nurse sharks swimming below.

πŸ’• Final Thoughts

From the vibrant energy of Baha Mar to the untamed beauty of Staniel Cay, this trip was pure Bahamian bliss. Swimming pigs may have sparked the idea, but what I found was so much more β€” salty adventures, slow mornings, and memories I’ll be reliving forever.
